At the end of the 1990s, the demise of the branch was forecast and the days of teller assist units (TAUs) were thought to be numbered. However, both have now become key components of banks' retail strategies.

A new study by RBR has found that the number of TAUs worldwide has increased by more than 50%, from 95,000 in 2001 to 145,000 by the end of 2008. The market is expected to continue expanding rapidly to reach 240,000 by 2013. This accelleration in the uptake of TAUs mirrors the renewed focus on converting to open-plan branches.

This study, which is based on an extensive survey of 218 banks in 25 key markets worldwide conducted between October and December 2008, examines the current deployment levels and assesses how the market is likely to evolve over the next five years.

The information and insights contained in this report will help suppliers make better, more informed decisions about how best to take advantage of emerging market opportunities, by establishing:

  • How branch strategies are evolving
  • The current size and structure of the market for TAUs
  • How the TAU market is likely to change over the next few years
  • Which countries have the largest potential for TAU solutions
  • The main market drivers, inhibitors and vendor selection criteria
  • The critical market requirements
